Six (or seven) Tour (de France) Cols Tour

At cycleaude.com we have created an opportunity for all competent cyclists to experience some of the challenge of the Tour de France. Either as part of a guided group or on an independent but pre-planned basis you can traverse six of the Cols of the Pyrenees made famous by the Tour De France.

Places such as Tourmalet, Hautacam, Peyresourde, Portel and Aspin are there to be conquered.

Travel in the steps of the great mountain climbers of the Tour along stages featured most recently in the 2008 Tour, but at your own speed.

Our itinery starts with your arrival, normally at Carcassonne airport, though Perpignan and Toulouse can be accommodated. You will be meet and your luggage and bike bag collected. A short (58 km) accompanied cycle ride through gently undulating countryside gets the travel out of your legs and warms you up for the journey ahead. The first night is spent at the cycleaude.com base Chambres d'hote in Puivert where your bulk luggage will be stored until your return.

Day one is a 104km ride over the Col de Portel to St Giron for over night.

Day two crosses the Col De Portet d'Aspet and the Col de Peyresourde during the 114km ride to Arreau. As an option the Col de Mente can be included actually reducing the distance by 7 kilometres.

Day three crosses the Col de Aspin and Tourmalet before the overnight stop in  St Savin. A shorter but no less challenging 75km reaching the highest point of the trip so far at 2115m.

Day four is an out and back ride up the Hautacam followed by the gentle trip to Lourdes where some may need its healing reputation! A quieter day of 45km but still 1179m of climb and then plenty of free time in Lourdes overnight before travelling back on day five mostly by train to Puivert and our base Chambres d'hote.

After a nights rest and bike packing, airport transfers are included to your departure airport.

This trip should be of interest to all those keen to test themselves over these famous climbs alone or in the company of other motivated cyclists.
